Lazslo Varga was executed at the Nevada State Prison on June 7, 1949.

He was convicted in the murder of Billie Rhae Morning a minister's wife in Wells, Nevada on March 22, 1948.

Varga was a native of Hungary, and come to the United States after World War II, he was nineteen at his death.

Varga was hitch hiking across eastern Nevada and asked everybody he met that we was looking for a Lutheran Councilor. He said he had come from New York and had made his way with the aid of Lutheran Councils.

At Wells in Elko County he was directed to the Mornings, Reverend Morning being the Presbyterian minister in town. Varga went to the Mornings, however the Reverend was not at home. Varga murdered the Reverend's wife and stole money from the house.

Varga, according to his wishes, was executed clad in a black shroud with a white cross on the back. He said that this was customary in Hungary for those penitents expecting immediate death.
