On February 21, 1997, Alexei, a 22-year-old unemployed Russian ex-convict, went on a killing spree stabbing three neighbors to death and wounding two others.

He first killed a male neighbor stabbing him 20 times with a dagger at an apartment building in southern Moscow.

Then he broke into another apartment, killed a 20-year-old woman and injured her 1-year-old son. Not wanting to call it a day, the slasher stabbed to death the woman's father and wounded her brother-in-law. When police arrived at the scene they shot the killer in the stomach and the leg. According to police, his wounds were not life threatening.
