Farrar was convicted of the 1986 robbery-slaying of Muriel L. Bentson, 79, of Keizer. Farrar kicked, hit, choked and shot Bentson when she returned home from an exercise class. Farrar had been living in Salem while on parole following a burglary conviction in Tillamook County.

Farrar was one of nearly two dozen Oregon Death Row inmates whose sentence was overturned by a 1989 U.S. Supreme Court decision declaring the state's capital punishment law unconstitutional.

Interesting fact: Farrar was the third person sentenced to death after Oregon's death penalty was reinstated.

Status: Life sentence.
