Policemen kill serial killer in Ibadan

April 10, 2006

A notorious killer in Ibadan, who has been parading himself as a chieftain of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Mr. Kazeem Adeyemo, was on Sunday killed during a shoot-out with the police.

Adeyemo, who was said to have killed over 50 people in the Ibadan metropolis, was killed by the police at Olomi Academy area of the town at about 9.30 a.m after he was reported to the police over the killing of a man earlier that morning.

The acclaimed OPC chieftain was also said to have snatched a child from its mother last Thursday allegedly for rituals. The last straw, according to the Nigerian Tribune investigation, was the killing of a young man at about 7.30 a.m yesterday.

This, according to the police, led to an attempt to arrest 42-year-old Adeyemo, but he resisted it and was later killed during a shoot-out. Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Adedeji, said the police had been on the trail of Adeyemo since April last year when he was reported to the police for being responsible for a series of killings, robberies and arson in Ibadan.

According to Adedeji, “Kazeem Adeyemo has been a household name in the killings of innocent souls in Ibadan. Over 50 people have been reportedly killed, while several others were said to have been kidnapped by him in the city. He had become a great terrorist.”

The PPRO added that “Adeyemo was killed when he resisted arrest and engaged the police in a shoot-out after a tip-off by the relatives of a man who was killed this morning.”

It will be recalled that a series of allegations had been levelled against the deceased by the people of Ibadan and published in the Nigerian Tribune last year. He was accused of kidnapping one Kazeem Alare and nine others at the Orita-Aperin area of Ibadan.

Suspected serial killer dies in shootout with police

April 10, 2006

A suspected serial killer was killed Sunday morning, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital during a shoot-out with the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The killing of Kassim Adeyemo at the Academy area of the ancient city, sparked off wild jubilation at Bere, Orita Aperin, Idi Arere and Mapo areas of Ibadan as many heaved a sigh of relief when they received the news about the seemingly invincible killer.

Adeyemo was described as a terror and very notorious for series of criminal activities. He was accused of being behind several cases of kidnapping, murder, robbery and serial killings in the state capital.

The base of SARS in Dugbe was besieged yesterday by hundreds of residents, especially those who claimed to have fallen victims of Adeyemo’s activities, as they struggled to have a glimpse of his corpse.

One of them, 20-year-old Kamaru Ambaliyu, told journalists at the SARS’ office how Adeyemo turned him to an one-legged person in 2004 when the suspect’s boys went on rampage at Mapo Hall area and shot him in the right leg.

"He made me a disabled person today. I was in my shop at Bere area when his boys came to Mapo Hall on July 20, 2004 and started shooting everywhere. In the process, I was shot in the right leg, which led to the amputation of my leg. Alhamudulilahi he too is no more today", Ambaliyu stated.

Police Image-maker in the state, Mr Femi Adedeji, told reporters that Adeyemo had been on the wanted list of the police command for a very long time, as most cases of murder, assassination and kidnapping were traced to him.

"He was responsible for a series of killings in the city. We have at least 20 families that have lost members of their families through his operations. He was responsible for some robbery and kidnapping. We are still working on some other vices that he was involved in", Adedeji said.

He disclosed that three members of Adeyemo’s gang were already in police net and helping the command to trail other members of the notorious gang.

Fearing that Adeyemo’s body could resurrect, the victims asked the police to dismember his body before they bury him so that his gang members would not be able to bring him back to life.
